Saskatchewan Blue Cross® Expands Partnership with the YMCA of Regina to Support Health Literacy

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – September 14, 2023 | Saskatchewan Blue Cross, a leading health and wellness solutions provider in the province, is proud to announce its expanded partnership with the YMCA of Regina to deliver Health Connect in Regina and Moose Jaw.

Newly developed in 2022, Health Connect aims to improve navigation of the health care system and increase individual health literacy rates and outcomes through connection to services, health education, and evidence-based programs for older adults 55+. Health Connect is offered by the YMCA in Regina and now Moose Jaw.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross and the YMCA of Regina understand that healthy communities are prosperous communities, and that individual wellness can be improved by informed decision making.  Unfortunately, not everyone has the same access to information and services, nor do they have the same capacity to understand it. Saskatchewan Blue Cross’ Community Investment program’s goal is to create strategic partnerships to support tools and resources that will help close health literacy gaps within Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross invests in and acts as a catalyst for change in health literacy. Health literacy is the degree to which individuals can obtain, communicate, process, understand and act upon basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.

Kelly Wilson, President & CEO at Saskatchewan Blue Cross, expressed her support of the partnership and expanded programming by saying, “We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthy lives and communities. As a passionate advocate for health literacy, Saskatchewan Blue Cross is proud to support this meaningful partnership with the YMCA and Health Connect in Regina and Moose Jaw.”

The YMCA is a charity that supports connection, friendship, and the healthy development of our community. Its programs and services focus on youth and families to support lifelong healthy living. The YMCA develops leaders and committed citizens who care about the values of positivity, belonging, empowerment, well-being and inclusivity, and the health of our community.

“The YMCA are grateful and appreciative to Saskatchewan Blue Cross for their expanded support of Health Connect in the Moose Jaw community. Health Connect supports adults aged 55 years or older to access expanded health literacy information, educational supports, provide community connection and to engage in activities to lead their best healthy life. This important community program would not be possible without the partnership and generous support of Saskatchewan Blue Cross.” said Steve Compton, CEO YMCA of Regina

Health Connect programming is available to those who are interested in attending, but unable to cover the cost of the Membership or drop-in fee. Contact YMCA of Regina for more information.
