Saskatchewan Blue Cross Announces Indigenous Bursary Initiative

SASKATOON | Saskatchewan Blue Cross is pleased to announce a new initiative aimed at improving health-related services for Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan. Through Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures program, Saskatchewan Blue Cross will support three $5,000 bursaries for Indigenous students pursuing a PhD, masters, or bachelors degree in social work in Saskatchewan. The funding will be available for a period of four years.

Access to healthcare is a significant issue for many remote indigenous communities, and Indigenous peoples are underrepresented in the healthcare profession. In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, this initiative aims to close the education gap while improving access and quality of care in Indigenous communities.

Indigenous healthcare providers understand the unique challenges faced by Indigenous patients and are better positioned to breakdown the barriers traditionally faced in these communities.
