The Retiree Plan provides essential supplementary coverage tailored for retirees, with coverage that includes Extended health benefits with VIP travel, prescription drugs, and the option to add dental coverage. Each benefit module has three levels of coverage to choose from – Basic, Classic, or Enhanced. Offering 36 possible plan combinations to fit different budgets, health and wellness goals, and lifestyles.

 

Basic

Coverage for your basic healthcare needs with 11 core benefits, including virtual care and mental wellness benefit – plus 70% on prescription drugs and 30-day travel coverage per trip.

 

Classic

Elevated healthcare coverage with 30 benefits, including virtual care and mental wellness benefit-plus 75% coverage on prescription drugs and 30-day travel coverage per trip.

 

Enhanced

Our most robust option, featuring 30 benefits and higher coverage maximums. Includes virtual care, mental wellness support, and enhanced prescription drug coverage—covering drugs listed on the Saskatchewan Blue Cross Formulary, with 80% reimbursement, a $6 deductible per eligible prescription, and a $3,000 annual maximum. Also includes 65 days of travel coverage per trip.

Who can apply for the Retiree plan? Icon/UI/plus-circle

The Retiree Plan is available to residents of Saskatchewan aged 50 and older who are nearing retirement, or have recently retired, and are leaving a group benefits plan. Coverage under the Retiree Plan must begin within 90 days of the date on which you lost coverage through your employer benefits plan.

Are pre-existing conditions covered under the Retiree Plan?  Icon/UI/plus-circle

Yes, the Retiree Plan is a guaranteed acceptance plan that provides coverage for essential health needs that retirees may not secure elsewhere. Upon application, there is no medical questionnaire, with guaranteed coverage.  

A 90-day stability clause applies to emergency medical travel coverage. This means that there is no travel coverage for medical conditions that are not stable for the 90 days before your trip’s start date.  

I already have a personal plan with Saskatchewan Blue Cross. Can I switch to the Retiree Plan? Icon/UI/plus-circle

Not at this time. The Retiree Plan is only available to members who have retired and lost coverage through a group benefits plan in the past 90 days.

Will coverage under my Retiree Plan be identical to my employer benefits plan? Icon/UI/plus-circle

The Retiree Plan is a unique product offering benefits that are complementary to group benefit plans but are not identical. This plan offers customizable options that can be tailored to your needs but may not provide the same coverage as your previous plan.

No, there are no waiting periods—coverage is seamless when transitioning from a group benefits plan.

What is the cost of the Retiree Plan? Icon/UI/plus-circle

The Retiree Plan offers a mix-and-match plan design with varied rates based on the selected benefit modules and coverage levels. The rate is calculated based on a number of factors:

  • The age of the oldest person on the policy;
  • The total number of members covered on the policy;
  • The benefit modules selected; and
  • The coverage level selected for each module.
