Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a full time Application Developer in the Information Systems and Technology Department located in our Saskatoon Office.

SUMMARY
Working as part of the application development team under the guidance of the Lead Application Developer, and reporting directly to the Director, IS&T, this position is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting application systems.  The successful incumbent will contribute to the ongoing improvement of IT services, be committed to quality standards and participate in the team by assisting others, sharing information and contributing to goals.

DUTIES & RESPSONSIBILITES

  • Work as part of a team to develop new functions, applications, and technical specifications to respond to changing needs, while ensuring adherence to the department’s development standards
  • Support and maintain existing applications
  • Identify and propose application system improvements
  • Prepare and execute unit tests
  • Develop and maintain system documentation
  • Provide work estimates and progress updates
  • Provide after-hours remote system support as required
  • Regular review and assessment of developmental goals, accomplishments and priorities to meet personal, departmental and organizational objectives
  • Perform other related projects and duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Post-Secondary diploma in Computer Systems Technology with a focus on Programming, and a minimum of 2 years directly related experience.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Previous experience developing web applications utilizing JavaScript, PHP and DBMS such as DB2 or MySQL
  • Knowledge of version control tools, IBMi and continuous integration will be considered assets
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to understand and document program requirements
  • Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively with others, as well as independently with minimum supervision
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities within established guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to work within time constraints to meet strict deadlines
  • Must be customer oriented and possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
  • Must undergo a Reliability Screening and successfully obtain a Reliability Status
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
